Also, everyone experiences TM differently and the effects are usually not immediate. If you have any pain, discomfort, or strange side-effects from TM, be sure to contact your instructor FIRST before coming to this subreddit for help. Lately I've become interested in forms of meditation as my anxiety has remained a frustrating constant for years now. I've nearly finished reading Peter Russell's The TM Technique, but other than this work, and a familiarity with Lynch's efforts, my knowledge runs no deeper. I could be willing to pay for an instructor when my financial situation is sound, but a quick Google search revealed that the closest TM center is a little over two hours away (I live in rural Alabama). What are my options, if any? Would it be more beneficial to me to practice other forms of meditation, perhaps ones not so tied to specific instruction?.
First, let me point out that I'm totally biased, so take whatever I say with whatever amount of salt you feel is appropriate.Second.In my mind, there's no substitution for learning TM from a trained instructor. In fact, the very existence of 'trained TM instructors' was controversial when Maharishi Mahesh Yogi started training people 55 years ago.
